"The lawsuit, filed in Cincinnati on Wednesday, claims the iPod Touch (16GB) exploded while inside the 15-year-old boy's pants pocket. The boy was sitting at his desk in school, the document says, when he "heard a loud pop and immediately felt a burning sensation on his leg." When he stood up, the suit says, he realized the device was on fire."

Well this is a scary thought since I have an Ipod also.

I hope Apple looks at it seriously.

I wonder about the legitimacy of this lawsuit. In the lawsuit, the plaintiffs are asking for $250,000, partly due to “a loss of income and the ability to earn income in the future permanently for the rest of his life.” Really? A burn on the leg will impact the 15-year-old’s ability to make a living in the future? Is he a future underwear model?

In addition, why are the ten Apple Store employees (John Does) listed in the suit? So, if I am a cashier at Wal-Mart, I can be sued if a customer buys a faulty coffee maker and gets burned?

Well it is not as bad as the guy suing the airline for 1 million over his XBox. My main concern is to figure out why the Ipod exploded while in his pocket and if that is a concern people should be worried about.

I don't understand the listing of the people from the Apple Store either.

There are, what, over 100 million iPods out in the public. One of them explodes and it's Apple's fault? It couldn't possibly be due to misuse or something. One in 100 million is rediculously high odds.

It's been almost two years since Apple hit that mark. Chances are even slimmer with close to 200 million units on the streets.

I looked and I guess that was the best number I could come up with. One hundred million or two hundred million... either way that's an insane amount of iPods out there. One exploding indicates that maybe something super unusual happened.

What kind of iPod was this? A nano? It would have to be. I can't imagine a kid carrying a Touch or Classic in his pocket.

It mentioned that it was an iPod Touch in the article.

Ouch. Must work on reading comprehension. Dang.

The part of any portable device likely to explode or catch fire is the rechargeable battery. These batteries are manufactured by a company like Sony. If the suit has merit, I am surprised that they list Apple store employees and not the battery manufacturer.

Whatever the circumstance with the lawsuit, it is silly to get worried about your iPod exploding. The chances are extremely remote. They are no more likely to explode than your cell phone, your laptop, your camera, your portable GPS and everything else own own with a rechargeable battery.
